It lay undiscovered until the 17th century, and even today there are people living within a 5 mile radius of the Point who are unaware of the existence.
From its northern boundary along Wilson Avenue, the Point's irregular shoreline juts out into Long Island Sound facing southward to the Norwalk Islands with Wilson Cove to the west and the Village Creek to the east. Rocky outcroppings and sandy beaches line its shorefront. Inland hills and valleys are wooded with large old trees and wild under brush, a refuge of numerous varieties of birds and small animals. Approximately 80 homes have been built on these 150 acres, ranging from a 1749 farmhouse to large contemporary houses built most recently.
